Land protected by the state Conservation Commission is peppered throughout the State. Typically land that is within a certain distance from a river, stream, marsh, water retention area, ocean or wetlands are controlled by the conservation commission. Buffer zones may be established based on the type of vegetation, soil condition or wildlife habitat. Properties may have part or all of it’s land within a non-buildable area. Permission may be required to build. Many Cities & Towns have a state conservation commission office and all construction must conform to these regulations.
