Handicapped accessibility effects all buildings
serving the public including commercial & residential. Though
existing buildings may be exempted, any change in the use may
trigger compliance. In addition, if a percentage of the
assessed value of a building is reached, then the entire building
may be required to comply. There are several different
state, federal and local regulations that may require compliance. Some
of the regulations may differ from one agency to another. The
goal is to have all buildings serving the public be accessible
to all persons handicapped or impaired.
